It's a Go Karting Christmas Party

So I organized an unconventional Christmas Party for the Dive club this year because... well honestly because I was too lazy to organize anything formal and fancy. Instead I planned a Go Karting/Dinner Christmas Party. Yes- apparently they have go karting in Kenya. We had the whole track to ourselves and although they said the track was lit, I have to say it was pretty dark, I should have brought my head lamp to light way.

Go karting in Kenya is the only thing I have done here that I thought while driving “hmmm... this is a little dangerous”- the karts aren't entirely stable, the track had some tight turns and people got pretty competitive- you would have thought we were racing the Grand Prix at some points. All in all it was a lot of fun and out of seven races I managed to win one- which was exciting!

Christmas Party Season!

Tis the season for Christmas parties, drinks and food! On Friday night I went to the Mountain Club’s annual Christmas party at the UN. The food was excellent and it was fun to see everyone all dressed up. The downside was that it was FREEZING- possibly the coldest I have been in Nairobi. The venue was a mix of indoors/outdoors and for some reason it was so cold- the days seem to be quite hot as of late, but once the sun goes down… aye caramba!



Saturday night was a great night of dinner, drinks, and music with friends- but nothing beat the relaxing Sunday I had at the Serena Hotel pool. Such a great way to spend a Sunday with friends, sun, and a pool!!

I’m heading to Lamu (northern coast of Kenya) over the holidays and am really looking forward to that- the last time I was there was in November of 2006. This is my last week of work before the holidays and then I am off until January 2.

Missing Snow! Believe it or not!

Only two weeks left til Christmas and unlike last year, I miss snow. I don't miss winter lasting until March-April, but I do miss seeing snow at this time of year. When you leave a place you start to realize the opportunities that were available, for example having the mountains so close to Calgary and having the opportunity to jump in the car and go skiing any weekend. Although I do have to admit that most weekends I couldn't fathom skiing in -15 C or below so I may have preferred to stay in a warm bed.

I might be completely behind in the Presidential race, as everyone may already know about this guy...but I had to show this. I saw it on CNN this morning- the Republican candidate Mike Huckabee's ad campaign... so HILARIOUS.
